Machine PrecisionDeduction = min[ 20% ยท QBI, max(50% ยท W-2 Wages, 25% ยท W-2 + 2.5% ยท UBIA) ]
Step-by-Step Mathematical Derivation
The preliminary deduction equals 20% of net Qualified Business Income from eligible domestic trades or businesses.
If taxable income is below $191,950 (Single) or $383,900 (MFJ), the full 20% deduction is allowed regardless of W-2 wages, UBIA property, or SSTB status.
Above the phase-out limit, the deduction is capped at the greater of: (a) 50% of W-2 wages, or (b) 25% of W-2 wages plus 2.5% of UBIA property. SSTBs receive $0 deduction above the upper threshold.
