Machine PrecisionGenerator Size = Total Running Watts + Largest Motor Surge Watts
Step-by-Step Mathematical Derivation
Compressors and pumps require 2 to 3 times their running power during the first 2 to 3 seconds of startup to establish magnetic rotor fields.
Calculate running load by summing all continuous devices. Then add only the SINGLE largest motor startup surge, since probability of multiple motors starting on the exact same millisecond is near zero.
Generators should not operate continuously at 100% capacity. Add a 20% safety margin: Generator kW = Peak Load × 1.20.
